Extinction Rebellion Chelmsford this morning staged socially-distanced protects in the Chelmsford City Centre to commence a series of peaceful protests taking place locally over the bank holiday weekend.
Children’s clothes decorated with messages encouraging people and politicians to take action over the Climate Crisis were displayed at various locations around Chelmsford.
“We want to live”, “Act now” and “Deeds not words” were among the messages shown on clothing, which were crafted by XR Chelmsford members and their children to symbolise the frightening future our planet is on course for.
Following local actions this weekend, there are national XR actions planned in London, Cardiff and Manchester to put pressure on the Government to take more drastic action on the Climate Crisis:
On 1 September the UK Parliament starts re-sitting after the summer: so we’re going to make sure they start anew with justice, care and life at the heart of it. From the 1st we will peacefully disrupt the UK Parliament in London, carrying out pressure building actions over two weeks, until they back the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill and prepare for crisis with a National Citizens’ Assembly.
